Remember when we all increased the size of periods to make our papers just a little bit longer? Or when we added  adjectives to every noun? Now we have AI producing anything that requires more than 10 words or full sentences. (Not this though!)

Listen, I am all for working smarter not harder but… please, please, PLEASE stop fluffing up your job descriptions!

You want to hire a quality employee? They don’t need 500 words on your company background. They can search and find out more than anything you can say about it.

Yes, you should include a high level description of the job. Not a play by play of every hour of a typical workday.

Yes, you should outline what you are looking for. If you know you are only going to hire someone with a degree in finance– say it. If other people still apply, it is their choice.

Long story SHORT! Don’t waste a candidate’s time. It will put them off before they even apply. Not to mention some great employees are searching for jobs in their off hours so the image you have of them sitting in pjs in the middle of the day is probably off.  And you should see who has done some research before the interview, but not just by reading the job listing.

Awesome side note, don’t ask them for a cover letter unless you intend on reading it. You aren’t our lit professor with a quota of papers to grade. Respect both your time and theirs.
